Good On Paper

"Good On Paper": An Exhibition Celebrating Women and Non-Binary Artists Opens at Compere Collective

Compere Collective, a woman-operated gallery space located in the vibrant neighborhood of Red Hook, Brooklyn, is excited to announce the opening of its latest show: "Good On Paper". This exhibition will showcase the distinct and innovative talents of eight local women and non-binary artists whose works express the versatility and dynamism of paper-based mediums.

Curated by Alexandra Jamieson as part of her We Create | NYC fiscal sponsor project under the New York Foundation for the Arts, "Good On Paper" is a testament to the vibrancy and diversity of Brooklyn’s creative community.

Featured artists include Jocelyn Benford, Catalina Toro, Nocturnal, Catalina Escallon, Judith Ornstein, Ellen Niz, Hayley Ferber, and Alexandra Jamison.

Playing with the idea that something is “good on paper,” but not actually excellent or morally virtuous, the artists’ work is curated to show different interpretations of goodness.

This exhibition features an eclectic range of works, from intricate cardboard constructions and collages, to altered books and watercolors. Through their unique perspectives and the transformative use of traditional materials, these artists push the boundaries of paper as a medium, challenging the viewer's perceptions and inviting them into a dialogue about the intersection of creativity, perspective, and identity.

Join us for the opening reception on Friday, September 8th, 2023 from 6-9pm.

The exhibition will be open daily from September 9th through September 22nd, between the hours of 3-6pm.

A closing reception will take place on Saturday, September 23rd from 5-8pm, offering an additional opportunity to meet the artists and discuss their work in an informal setting.

"Good On Paper" embodies Compere Collective's commitment to amplifying diverse voices and providing a platform for artists who are challenging the conventional narratives of the art world. It's a show that promises not only to impress, but also to inspire, reaffirming the Collective's position as a vital cultural hub in the heart of Brooklyn.
